I was painting at the Mary Edwards property in Granby, Connecticut, when a bear suddenly walked out of the bushes about ten feet away from me. It didn't approach me; it simply continued downhill and went on its way.
That certainly gave me something to remember the day by! It's how this peaceful landscape got its title, Mary Edwards Bear. The painting later became one of my prize-winning works.
