GEORGE MATTINGLY

East Chop Lighthouse

This painting began as a commission, but the person who commissioned it ultimately turned it down. That was disappointing, as you might imagine—but someone else bought it the very next day!
I've always remembered that. A painting won't speak to everyone in the same way, and sometimes the right person comes along sooner than you expect.
